Terese Svoboda: Roxy and Coco & The Long Swim
What's better than one book launch? Two book launches!
We are honored to announce that Terese Svoboda—called "one of our best writers" by Karen Russell, and "a true original" by Emily St. John Mandel—will join us in the store to launch two new works of fiction.
In Svoboda's words, "Roxy and Coco is a speculative fiction about two harpies-turned-social workers who sometimes drop abusive parents off cliffs." In Brian Evenson's words, the novel exists "at the sweet spot between Rachel Ingalls' Mrs. Caliban, Donald Barthelme's Snow White, and James Purdy's I Am Elijah Thrush." If you need more than that to make you want to read this book, we don't know how to help you!
We'll let Aimee Bender describe The Long Swim, a short story collection that won the Juniper Prize for Fiction: "These stories, so precise and joyful in language and movement, don’t hesitate to dive meaningfully into heaviness and honesty. What musical and beautifully written pieces to read aloud and savor." We hear it's even better when the author herself reads them aloud!
Svoboda will sign copies of both books after the event.
