Bookends & Beginnings' 8th Birthday Party
We're celebrating our 8th birthday the week of June 12 - June 18!
In the spirit of the classic novel by Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, we'll be hiding three GOLDEN TICKETS inside our Naked Truffle chocolate bars. Customers will have the opportunity to win by purchasing a chocolate bar in the store from Sunday, June 12 - Saturday, June 18. You can’t lose—even if you don’t find a golden ticket, you still get a delicious treat from the local chocolatier.
Golden ticket holders will win an $80 gift card for Bookends & Beginnings and the opportunity to join us in the store as BOOKSELLER FOR A DAY, an opportunity we've offered in the past for which you may recommend books to customers, write a shelf talker, and take home an Advanced Reader Copy of a book. (Please note that winners must be 5+ and vaccinated).
Our celebration culminates on Saturday, June 18 with a birthday party, featuring storytelling, music, and homemade mini cupcakes baked by Owner Nina Barrett and Bookends University Programming Director Freda Love Smith.
From 4 - 5 pm in our courtyard, former Chicagoan Mark Roberts—screenwriter, actor, comedian, and writer (best known for creating the sitcom Mike and Molly, but you’ve also seen him on episodes of Seinfeld, The Larry Sanders Show, Friends, and The Tonight Show, among others) will perform a few stories from his delightfully twisted grown-up children’s book The Lonely Banjo. Mark will be musically accompanied in the courtyard by his collaborator Dag Juhlin, singer/songwriter/guitar player in The Slugs, Poi Dog Pondering, Expo 76, and Sunshine Boys. We will have copies of The Lonely Banjo available for sale and signing.
From 5:15 - 6 pm, in the back room of the bookstore, Evanston singer/songwriter Rachel Drew will elevate the party with a solo set of beautiful music. Paste Magazine writes that “…Rachel delivers intelligent lyrics in a soulful, heartfelt manner…blending a strong modern take on rhythmic Memphis soul…with doses of introspective folk, classic country, and the occasional pop-influenced flourish.”
Please come by, enjoy the music, and let’s raise a cupcake to 8 years of community and good books—and to many more years to come!
