BookTrade and Beginnings!

Trade in your gently used books for store credit (appointment only, please).

To set up an appointment, please email used@bookendsandbeginnings.com. In order to make the scheduling as efficient as possible, please include your first and last name, a rough estimate of items you'll be bringing in, and a few times throughout the week that would work best for you. Plese note that it takes us about 30 minutes to get through about 20 books, and we request you stick around in store until we have made you an offer.

So, you need to unload some books from your shelf — we’ve all been there. Whether you read the book and didn’t like it, need to lessen the weight on your shelf, or just want a little designated book money, our BookTrade program gives you the opportunity to exchange your gently used books for store credit.

While we cannot take every book that walks through our door, we do take our time to assess your items, and offer an amount reflecting our own needs. Based on the condition and value of each individual book, you will receive store credit that you can use on any item from the store, including new books and gifts/stationery.

Below are some criteria for what we will and will not be able to accept. Please use this to sort your books before you bring them in. You will need to take the items we are not interested in with you when you leave.

Condition Requirements:

  • Little to no liquid damage
  • Little to no writing/highlighting
  • No broken spines for hardbacks
  • Hardbacks must have dust jacket
  • Paperbacks must have front and back cover
  • No missing pages

Types of books we’re REALLY interested in:

  • New titles (released in the past 2-ish years)
  • Adult Fiction (Literary, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, Romance)
  • Current Young Adult
  • All Graphic Novels
  • Manga
  • Psych/Sociology
  • LGBTQIA+
  • True Crime

Types of books we’re really NOT interested in:

  • Old Business Managment
  • Magazines

We can only make offers in person, and ask that you wait in the store while we assess your books. If you are looking to get rid of items that we were not able to offer for, we suggest donating them to Better World Books (donation bin outside Evanston Public Library), Goodwill (at either their Evanston or Skokie location), or Brown Elephant in Andersonville.
